One of the most common questions we get asked at Kokanee Mountain Zipline is: ‘Is ziplining safe?’ Our unequivocal answer is: ‘Yes, absolutely.’
Obviously, we’re a little biased, but we wouldn’t be doing this if we thought we were putting our visitors at risk. We truly believe it’s one of the safest, most enjoyable things to do in Nelson.
From the time we embarked on this project, we’ve placed an emphasis on safety while providing the ultimate thrill ride high above Kokanee Creek canyon. Here are some examples of the things we do to provide you with the widest margin of safety possible…
The Zipline Course
Our aerial park is comprised of six unique, well-secured ziplines. Each one is accessed by professionally engineered towers that are suspended either in the trees or on cliff sides. They are built to extremely high standards, and are designed to provide:
- Easy access
- Great vantage points
- A fun ziplining experience
A Gradual Approach
We understand that it’s one thing to tell guests that ziplining is safe, and another to make them feel safe when they’re about to step off of a platform. That’s why our zipline course begins with a couple of shorter, easy-going lines to give you a chance to get used to the sensation of flying through the air.
As you make your way along the course, the lines get:
- Longer
- Higher
- Faster
Our longest zipline is 2,400 feet and 300 feet off the ground!
Safety Equipment
When you arrive, you’ll be outfitted with a safety harness and helmet. You’ll then be taken through a safety orientation detailing:
- How the equipment works
- Do’s and Don'ts of ziplining
- What to expect while you’re on the course
Highly Trained Guides
Every zipline tour is accompanied by one of our knowledgeable guides. Their job is to:
- Make you feel comfortable and welcome
- Offer encouragement when needed
- Oversee your personal safety
- Highlight what makes this area one of the best places to see in BC
Zero Experience Required
One of the best things about ziplining is that anyone can do it. It requires no previous experience because we take care of everything. Our goal is for you to simply enjoy this exhilarating activity to its fullest.
Since we began operating in 2015, we’ve already had guests ranging from ages five to 88! You don’t have to be particularly physically fit to tackle the course because gravity does all of the work for you.
If you’re not convinced that ziplining is suitable for all ages, read our post: What Do Seniors Think about Ziplining in the Kootenay Mountains?
