Enjoy reconnecting with nature by camping around Nelson, BC this summer
Like every adrenaline junkie, we know the importance of resting to be able to really embrace life. And because we love the outdoors, our favourite way of unplugging is camping! If you’re making the trip out to enjoy the thrill of one of the best ziplines in BC, we have some fantastic camping spot recommendations around Nelson, BC for you to check out.
Whether you’re coming in an RV, have a throng of kids in tow, or plan on roughing it, we have a recommendation for every Kootenays tourism camping style.
1. Kokanee Creek Provincial Park
A quick 3km hop, skip, and jump down the road from Kokanee Mountain Zip Lines is the Kokanee Creek Provincial Park. It’s well known for being one of the most popular camping spots in BC - and for good reason! Featuring breath-taking old-growth western cedar and grand fir trees, this park boasts an adventure playground, group campsites, hiking trails, and more.
With wheelchair-accessible campgrounds, sani-station/dumps, and vehicle-accessible camping, this beautiful campsite is ready for every type of camper.
2. Lost Ledge
Although popular camping spots have their place, maybe you’re looking for something a little more off the beaten track. Try camping at Lost Ledge: a small, secluded campground with only 14 campsites, guaranteed to give you lots of space to yourself.
With outstanding views of the Purcell Kootenay Mountain range, this campground is perfect for angling, boating (also kayaking and canoeing), and hiking. Plus, you can purchase a full basket of firewood for your campsite for just $9.
3. Bear Spring Eco Resort
Maybe the idea of roughing it isn’t your vibe. No judgment here - we know the mosquitos have been particularly bad in BC this year. Instead, try your hand at glamping at the Bear Spring Eco Resort.
This (mostly) off-grid, eco-friendly retreat allows you to enjoy the outdoors with all the comfort of home - including queen-size mattress beds, solar lighting, and outdoor cooking areas complete with dishes and utensils. Plus, some of their glamorous tents even feature skylights for stargazing while you stay warm and cozy with modern comforts.
4. Cool Waters RV Park
Luxury isn’t the usual goal when it comes to camping though - especially when traveling with a big family and trying to keep costs down. With an RV, we recommend checking out Cool Waters RV Park - just 4km south of Nelson’s tourism district downtown.
While you won’t be roughing it here (full access to wireless internet, electrical, and water services) you’re close to dozens of family outdoor activities: hiking, golfing, boating, and fishing just to name a few. Just make sure you know where the closest sani-dump is when taking your RV out and about!
5. Nelson City Campground
While being remote is a wonderful feature of camping, if you’re coming to Nelson, why not camp within city limits? The Nelson City Campground still gives you that classic camping feel, with a forested natural environment - but now you’re an easy walk away from all the shopping, parks, and beaches you could desire.
There are plenty of things to do in Nelson, BC. And this is the perfect spot to experience our historic landmarks, tour renowned Baker Street, and enjoy the outdoors all at once.
